The Los Angeles Harbor Commission has approved a resolution initiating an environmental impact statement and report on a proposed berth and wharf improvement project by Yusen Terminals.
The first step in Yusen Terminals’ proposed plan is to deepen and improve its terminal facilities to accommodate next-generation vessels and increase cargo volume at its site.
“We’re pleased that the port has given its support to begin the development planning process on this critical project,” said Patrick Burgoyne, president and CEO of Yusen Terminals, in a written statement.
Yusen Terminals currently operates under a 25-year term lease at the Port of Los Angeles. The lease is valid through September 2016. Yusen Terminals plans to exercise its option for a 10-year lease extension.
The environment impact statement and report process is expected to take about 18 months to complete.
