Baltimore Sets Cargo-Handling Record

Maryland’s Gov. Martin O’Malley reported that the Port of Baltimore’s public and private marine terminals handled a record 36.8 million tons of cargo in 2012, valued at an all-time high of $54 million.

The port’s public terminals moved 6.29 million tons of container cargo in 2012, up 7 percent from the previous record of 5.83 million tons in 2011.

In total, the public terminals handled 9.59 million tons of general cargo in 2012, increasing 8 percent from 2011.
