The Georgia Ports Authority posted 5.6 percent growth in tonnage in July and August, with 13.8 percent growth in 20-foot-equivalent units in August, an increase of 240,000 tons over the same two months in fiscal year 2012.
Volume for the Port of Savannah grew 4.4 percent fiscal year to date, as the port handled 522,744 TEUs over the first nine weeks of the fiscal year. The Port of Brunswick saw even stronger growth, with total tonnage up 48.4 percent for the month of August (at 199,141 tons), and a 30.2 percent increase in the fiscal year to date.
GPA also had a record month for intermodal activity in August, handling 29,364 intermodal rail moves.
