Container traffic at New Zealand’s Port of Tauranga rose 15.5 percent year-over-year to 590,506 20-foot equivalent container units in fiscal year 2011 ending June 30, as its transshipment volume jumped 52 percent within the same period.
Container volume at the MetroPort terminal, located in the center of Auckland’s industrial belt, rose 20 percent to 138,000 TEUs in fiscal 2011 from the same period a year ago. Overall container exports rose 5.7 percent, while container imports grew 27.5 percent within the same period.
Overall tonnage volume at the port rose 12.4 percent year-over-year to 15.4 million metric tons in fiscal 2011.
