Singapore Container Traffic Rises 4.7 Percent

Container traffic at the Port of Singapore rose 4.7 percent in July to 2.6 million 20-foot equivalent container units from last year, giving the port its busiest month in at least 19 months.

By the Numbers: Asia-Europe Westbound Container Traffic

The port’s container handling in 2010 increased 9.9 percent to 28.4 million TEUs from the previous year.

The port’s total tonnage handling in July rose 5.2 percent to 45.3 million tonnes from the same period in 2010. Overall tonnage handling in July fell 0.7 percent from June, largely due to an 8.2 percent drop in oil throughput.
