Shipping Rate, Surcharge Update for Week of Oct. 15-19

 Chilean container carrier CSAV will raise its rates on westbound cargo from the Indian subcontinent to North Europe and the Mediterranean. The proposed general rate increase, starting Nov. 1, will be $200 per 20-foot-equivalent unit. “In order to continue offering our wide portfolio of services and high level of reliability, it will be necessary for us to implement a general rate increase,” CSAV India said.

 Maersk Line postponed the implementation date of its general rate increase on the Far East Asia-South America East Coast trade from Oct. 15 to Nov. 1. The Danish carrier's rate hike on dry cargo would be $200 per 20-foot container unit and $400 per 40-foot/45-foot high cube container unit. In related news, Middle East carrier Emirates Shipping Line will impose a general rate increase on shipments from the Far East and Southeast Asia to the Middle East. Effective Nov. 1, the planned increase will be $300 per 20-foot-equivalent unit.
