Port of Virginia to Reopen to Ships Tuesday Night

The Virginia Port Authority said its marine terminal will start handling vessels at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

After closing Monday to ride out Hurricane Sandy, the port reopened Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., but wasn't ready to handle vessels while the terminals were inspected for any storm damage.

“There was no damage, only some standing water,” VPA spokesman Joe Harris said. “We’re in good shape.”

He said trucks and railroads that serve the port had returned to normal operations.
