The Manatee County Port Authority has approved a $13 million contract for a 584-foot berth extension and a 10-acre container yard at Port Manatee, Fla.
The project, which will complete an expansion project that began in 1997, will extend the port’s Berth 12 to 1,584 feet long and provide a 10-acre container yard. Dredging to 40-foot draft was completed in 2011.
American Bridge Co. is the contractor for the expansion, which is expected to be complete by June 2013. CH2M Hill will provide construction-phase engineering services.
Port Manatee purchased 412 acres for the project in 1997. The land provided the first waterside expansion opportunity outside the original footprint of the port, which opened in 1970 near the mouth of Tampa Bay.
