Panama Canal Authority Awards Atlantic Bridge Contract

The Panama Canal Authority awarded the contract to build a bridge on the Atlantic side of the canal to Vinci Construction Grands Projets of France.

Vinci’s bid of $366 million was the lowest of the three prequalified bidders.

The other two bidders that presented proposals were an international consortium consisting of Odebrecht of Brazil and Hyundai of South Korea, and another consortium consisting of Acciona Infraestructuras of Spain and Tradeco of Mexico.

The bridge will be located about two miles north of Gatun Locks and the new Post-Panamax locks on the Atlantic side province of Colon. It will be built with reinforced concrete.
