Administration Action Urged to Prevent ILA Strike

The National Retail Federation and more than 100 national and state associations today sent a letter to President Obama to urge the administration to ensure that an International Longshoremen’s Association strike does not occur when the union’s contract with the United States Maritime Alliance expires on Dec. 29.

The coalition asked the president to use his authority under the Taft-Hartley Act to keep the parties negotiating in order to avoid the shutdown of 14 containerized ports on the East Coast, from Maine to Texas.
