International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 19 has filed its final reply brief in its lawsuit challenging the Seattle and King County’s signing of a memorandum of understanding with Chris Hansen to build a new arena in Seattle’s South of Downtown neighborhood.
The ILWU maintains their support for an NBA return to Seattle, but oppose SoDo for an arena location. ILWU Local 19 contends that a new SoDo arena and its “LA Live” entertainment district would jeopardize maritime and industrial jobs in and around SoDo and make the Port of Seattle less competitive because increased traffic.
The brief asks the court to set aside the MOU on the grounds that Seattle and King County unlawfully committed to a SoDo site before any required environmental review or alternative site analysis, under the State Environmental Policy Act.
