Deal Reached to End LA-LB Strike

Striking workers from the Office Clerical Unit of International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 63’s and employers at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have reached a tentative deal on a new contract, ending the strike that has crippled operations at the two ports since last week.

The ILWU said that the workers had obtained “new protections that will help prevent jobs from being outsourced” both domestically and abroad.

The deal was reported just hours after the arrival of federal mediators, but the mediators had little to do with the agreement, according to Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Director George Cohen, AP reports.
