Port Metro Vancouver’s 2012 Container Traffic Hit All-Time High

Port Metro Vancouver in British Columbia handled a record 2.7 million 20-foot-equivalent units in 2012, rising 8 percent year-over-year.

The port also moved 124 million metric tons of cargo in 2012, rising 1 percent from 2011. The gain was mainly driven by growth in Asian economies and continuing strength in the Canadian economy, the port said in a written statement.

Total foreign tonnage at the port in 2012 posted a 1 percent increase with 96.8 million metric tons. Domestic tonnage also rose by 1 percent to 27.1 million metric tons.
