Haifa Port's Container Traffic Hits Record High

Israel’s Haifa Port reported its container traffic in 2012 was 1.38 million 20-foot-equivalent units, an 11.5 percent increase compared to 2011 and a record high for the port.

The previous record was set in 2010 with 1.26 million TEUs.

“Dramatic growth” has been noted in the rate of unloading containers recently, the port said in a written statement. Cranes were handling an average of 27 to 28 containers per hour.
