Knud Stubkjaer, a former senior executive with Maersk Line and German shipowner E.R. Schiffahrt, has been named CEO of Carrix, the parent of Seattle-based SSA Marine and Tideworks Technology. Current CEO Jon Hemingway will continue to serve as chairman.
Stubkjaer spent 30 years with A.P. Moller-Maersk, including as CEO of Maersk Line. More recently, he was a partner and CEO of E.R. Schiffahrt, a large Hamburg-based owner and manager of chartered container ships. He will continue to serve on the board of E.R. Capital Holding Group, the parent company.
“Jon Hemingway and his colleagues have built a significant company in its field, which I have known from my Maersk Line days as a first class, professional, reliable and quality oriented enterprise with a strong foundation for the future,” Stubkjaer said. “I have had five fantastic years with the E.R. Capital Holding Group in Hamburg, just as I enjoyed my prior 30 years with Maersk.”
Carrix and its subsidiaries are the largest U.S.-owned and the largest privately held container terminal operator and cargo handling company, handling approximately 22 million 20-foot-equivalent units a year at marine and rail terminals. The 63-year-old company serves more than 120 locations worldwide, including port operations in the U.S., Panama, Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia and New Zealand.
