Fesco booked double-digit growth across its ocean container, rail, port terminal and intermodal units in 2011 as it benefited from soaring transport demand in a strengthening Russian economy.
Fesco’s ocean carrier, Russia’s largest container line, increased traffic by 15 percent from a year ago to 430,000 20-foot equivalent units, with international shipments accounting for 367,331 TEUs.
The rail unit boosted traffic by 30 percent to 251,987 TEUs, outpacing 4 percent growth in conventional cargo shipments to 25.5 million metric tons. Intermodal traffic soared 40 percent to 66,926 TEUs and freight forwarding volume grew 43 percent to 121,007 TEUs.
Fesco’s Far Eastern port of Vladivostok saw throughput grow 27 percent to 432,062 TEUs.
“We obtained visible growth rates in the priority business directions keeping excellent performance in the high-margin container segment,” said Fesco president Sergey Generalov.
