Luka Koper, the operator of the Port of Koper in Slovenia, reported container throughput at the port in 2012 was 5.29 million metric tons, down 0.8 percent compared with 5.33 million metric tons in 2011.
Annual container throughput in 20-foot-equivalent units was 570,744, falling 3.3 percent from 589,314 TEUs in the previous year.
Container freight revenue was $32.49 million, rising slightly from $32.42 million in 2011.
A general decline in North Adriatic maritime transport can mainly be attributed to commercial decisions being made by shipowners in a period of recession as a result of uncertain quantities, variations in shipping rates and high fuel prices, Luka Koper said in a written statement.
Total cargo throughput for the year was 17.88 million metric tons, up 4.9 percent from 17.05 million metric tons in 2011, and total revenue was $134.64 million, increasing from $134.43 million.
