Cargo throughput at India’s Port of Mumbai climbed 7 percent year-over-year in the first 10 months of fiscal 2012-13, the port authority said in a statement on Monday.
Total tonnage from April 2012 through January 2013 was 48.5 million tons, up from 45.15 million tons a year earlier. Inbound traffic was 33.6 million tons, increasing from 31.2 million tons. Outgoing cargo volume was 14.9 million tons, compared with 13.9 million tons.
Container volume for the 10-month period stayed flat at 49,656 20-foot-equivalent units, with imports accounting for 40,117 TEUs.
Mumbai handled 56 millions of cargo in fiscal 2011-12, which ended March 31, 2012, an increase of 3 percent over the previous fiscal year. Container throughput in 2011-12 declined nearly 20 percent year-over-year to 57,760 TEUs.
