Federal, state and municipal agents said three containers were detained for improper placards among the 252 containers and tanks checked during two days of intensive inspections this week at Horizon Lines’ terminal in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Coast Guard said the inspections were a routine check to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations on safe shipment of cargo. Agents screened 185 containers with Customs and Border Protection’s Vacis machine and physically inspected 67 other containers and tanks.
Two containers were detained because improper hazardous-materials placarding and one container was detained because of other improper safety placarding. No illegal drugs or contraband shipments were detected, the Coast Guard said.
