Abu Dhabi Terminals Volume Rose 47 Percent in 2011

Abu Dhabi Terminals saw volume rise 47 percent year-over-year in 2011, reaching 767,713 20-foot equivalent units.

ADT currently operates three facilities in Abu Dhabi - Mina Zayed, Mina Freeport and Mina Musaffah. But the company’s container capacity will receive a huge boost later this year when Khalifa port opens, adding a further 2 million TEU of annual box capacity in the United Arab Emirates.

Martijn Van De Linde, Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Terminals, said ADT, which was set up five years ago, had already more than tripled container volumes.

“The growth so far has been impressive, but the most exciting years are still ahead of us and we are now working hard on preparations for the opening of the new container terminal at Khalifa Port,” he added. “When this opens in the fourth quarter of 2012 it will be region’s first semi-automated container terminal.”
