NYK Provides Free Land Transport of Relief Supplies by Container Trailer

From April 11 to 25, NYK used container trailers provided by Nippon Container Yuso Co. Ltd, an NYK Group company, to provide free land transport of relief supplies in 13 20-foot containers from Yokohama to areas affected by the Japan earthquake and tsunami. The essentials were requested by the prefectural governments of Iwate and Miyagi, and included clothing and daily commodities provided through the “Third Relief Supplies Hotline.”

The following companies and organizations provided relief supplies through the hotline, which was established by the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations and NYK: Asahi Glass Co. Ltd., Ajinomoto Co. Inc., Ube Industries. Ltd., Wuerth Japan Inc., Kashikosh Inc.,(Haseko corporation group), Canon Chemicals Inc., Kowa Real Estate Co. Ltd., Sapporo Beverage Co. Ltd., Sapporo Breweries Ltd., Sapporo Lion, Inc. JX Nippon Oil & Energy Trading Corporation, Shiseido Co. Ltd., Sharp Corporation, Sumitomo Chemical Co. Ltd., Sumitomo Corporation Kyusyu Co. Ltd., Saitama Seibu Lions Players Union, Seibu Lions, Sekisui Chemical Co. Ltd., Sojitz Cosmetics Corporation, Societe Generale Group, Takashimaya Co. Ltd., Tanaka Foods Co. Ltd., , Du Pont Kabushiki Kaisha, The Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan, Tokai Rika Co. Ltd., Central Nippon Expressway Co. Ltd., JRCC (Japan Relief Clothing Center), Nippon Life Insurance Company, Microsoft Japan Co. Ltd., East Japan Railway Company, Hitachi, Ltd., Protiviti Inc., Mazda Motor Corporation, Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., Mitsui Sugar Co. Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Riken Technos Corporation.

Main relief supplies sent upon request to the quake-stricken area include the following: food wrap, paper plates, disposable chopsticks, paper cups, disposable diapers, underclothes, socks, toothbrushes, sheets, detergent, sterilization freshener, sterilization deodorant wet tissues, cotton work-gloves, trash cans, dry-cell batteries (size C and D), denture cleaner, skin lotion, milky lotion, female hygiene products, seasonings, ceramic small bowls, aluminum pots, ladles, microwaves, etc.

NYK will continue to use its logistics and transport services, facilities, and networks across oceans, land, and air to demonstrate the group’s commitment to social contribution activities.
