Service to add second India call at large container port Nhava Sheva

Yang Ming Line and Orient Overseas Container Line plan to upgrade their jointly-operated China-Pakistan-Express (CPX) Service, effective May 21.

The weekly service would now include a direct call at Nhava Sheva, India’s largest container gateway, in addition to the existing call at Mundra.

The CPX deploys five vessels of 1,900 TEUs each, with YML providing three vessels and OOCL, two.

The revised rotation is Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Karachi, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Penang, Port Kelang, Singapore, Hong Kong, and back to Shanghai.

The carriers said the additional call at Nhava Sheva would help offer a direct connection between Central China and India.

The west coast Port of Nhava Sheva handles almost 60 percent of India’s containerized traffic. In fiscal 2008-09 ended March 31, total volume handled by its three terminals was 3.95 million TEUs.
