Seaspan Gets 43rd Containership

First vessel this year chartered to MOL; 25 more due over next 30 months

Seaspan on Jan. 8 took delivery of its latest containership. The MOL Empire from Hyundai Heavy Industries has a capacity of 5,100 20-foot equivalent units.

Seaspan's first new ship in 2010 brings the charter company's fleet to 43 vessels.

The MOL Empire is on charter to MOL under a 12-year, fixed-rate time charter. MOL already has three other Seaspan ships on long-term time charters.

Seaspan has 25 more new containeships on order scheduled for delivery over the next two and half years, all of which have commitments for long-term charters from liner companies including Cosco Container Lines and “K” Line.
