The Port of Los Angeles earned 2010 American Association of Port Authorities awards in the areas of information technology, communications and environmental management.
The awards recognized Los Angeles in the information technology category of its Enterprise Geographic Information System project, a $1.9 million undertaking that integrates multiple platforms and consolidates divisional efforts to overcome organizational challenges covering some 7,500 acres.
The port also received the Dan Maynard communications award for overall excellence. Los Angeles received honors for a dozen projects, and this is the third time the port received the award in five years.
Los Angeles and Long Beach jointly received an honorable mention in the environmental management category for the Water Resources Action Plan, a coordinated effort targeting remaining water and sediment sources in San Pedro Bay.
