NYK Raises Trans-Atlantic Rates

The Journal of Commerce Online - News Story
Japanese carrier follows increases by Maersk, CMA CGM, Hanjin

NYK Line will implement a general rate increase for all dry and refrigerated containers to and from U.S. and Canadian ports to all port in Northern Europe as of Sept. 14.

The planned increases are $250 per 20-foot container and $500 per 40-foot container.

NYK said the GRI will apply to all cargo under NYK Line independent tariffs and service contracts.

The Japanese carrier’s action follows similar moves by Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Hanjin Shipping, which have all implemented trans-Atlantic increases of various sizes.

NYK said the restoration initiative is necessary to address what it called “the severe economic challenges associated with NYK operating services in the trans-Atlantic trade.”
