A.P. Moller-Maersk appointed Robert Uggla chief executive of its Svitzer tugboats subsidiary. Uggla is the 33-year-old grandson of Maersk McKinney Moller, the 98-year-old head of the Moller family that controls nearly 60 percent of Maersk’s stock.
Uggla, currently managing director of Maersk’s Swedish tanker unit Brostrom, joined Maersk in 2004, and in 2006 was appointed Maersk Line country manager based in Dubai. He will move to Svitzer on May 1.
Uggla, who has been tipped as a future head of A.P. Moller-Maersk, is replacing Jesper Lok, who was recently appointed CEO of DSB, the Danish national railway.
With a work force of about 4,500 employees, Svitzer operates more than 500 harbor tugs and salvage vessels and has another 20 on order.
