Kalmar, a business unit of Cargotec, won a contract to provide a fleet of 20 shuttle carriers to TTI Algeciras in Spain.
The Kalmar carriers have a single-lifting capacity of 40 tonnes and can stack containers 2-high. The equipment will be delivered by January 2010. They will provide transportation between the ship-to-shore cranes and automatic stacking cranes.
The Algeciras terminal, due to open in 2010, will have more than 1,200 meters of quayside to serve vessels carrying up to 10,000 TEUs. The terminal is expected to handle more than 1.5 million TEUs annually.
