WCI: Eastbound Trans-Atlantic Rates Rise, Westbound Slide

Trans-Atlantic rates from New York to Rotterdam increased $44 per 40-foot container in the week of July 4, following general rate increases of $200 and $150 per FEU by Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd, respectively, implemented on July 1, according to the latest release of the World Container Index. Despite July 1 increases imposed for the westbound trans-Atlantic — hikes of $200 per FEU by CMA CGM, Maersk Line and Hapag Lloyd — westbound rates continued to decline.
