Carriers currently operating services in the Southeast Asia-Australia trade will consolidate their respective services, beginning in the middle of April.
AUS, the Australia service for Hanjin Shipping, and ASA, the Singapore-Australia service for the rest of the carriers, currently operated by ANL (subsidiary of CMA CGM), Hanjin Shipping, OOCL and RCL with four 1,900 20-foot-equivalent ships — rotating Jakarta, Indonesia; Singapore; Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in Australia; and Jakarta — will be combined with the existing SAL, the Asia-Australia container service operated by China Shipping Container Lines, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Hapag-Lloyd and United Arab Shipping Company with four 2,250 TEU ships — rotating Port Klang, Malaysia; Singapore; Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide in Australia; and Port Klang.
According to the partner carriers, the newly consolidated service, named ASAL, the Australia service for Hanjin Shipping and the Southeast Asia-Australia service for the rest of the carriers, will be jointly operated by CSCL, Hanjin Shipping, Hapag-Lloyd, RCL and UASC with five ships of between 3,400 and 3,600 TEUs, offering weekly sailings to and from all of the ports previously covered by the separate services. Hyundai Merchant Marine and OOCL will also participate in the service through slot purchase.
The new ASAL port rotation is: Jakarta, Port Klang, Singapore, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaid and Jakarta. The first sailing commences from Singapore on April 19.
