China is seeking to protect its domestic shipping industry from foreign competitors, Reuters reports, using new regulations that will block foreign firms from selling services on domestic waterways.
The rules, which will take effect Jan 1., also prohibit Chinese companies from using foreign-made vessels without permission from the government.
The new rules will apply to ships registered in the special governed zones of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as well unless they get exemptions, Reuters said.
