Sea Star Ending Philadelphia-Puerto Rico Service

Sea Star Line on July 22 will suspend its weekly service connecting Philadelphia; Jacksonville, Fla., and San Juan, Puerto Rico, because of a lack of business.

The ending of the service, involving two ships with roll-on, roll-off and container capabilities, comes a little more than year after the Jacksonville-based shipping company began the service. Sea Star said it has developed several land bridge options so that customers won’t be affected by the termination of service.

Prior to beginning the service in April 2010, Sea Star was able to provide customers with limited space on Horizon Lines ships calling on the Port of Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal through a partnership with the Charlotte, N.C.-based shipping company.
