State-owned Shipping Corporation of India will seek a rate increase on the westbound trades from India to Europe, as part of what it called a rate restoration program.
Effective March 1, the planned increase will be $250 per 20-foot equivalent unit.
The rate increase applies to all cargo moving from India to North Europe, the United Kingdom, the Mediterranean and Black Sea ports.
The national carrier earlier implemented a similar rate hike on the same route, as of Feb. 4.
Separately, SCI will also boost its “line security surcharge” imposed earlier on all cargo moving to and from India, citing increased cargo security-related costs at various ports. Effective March 1, the fee will be $10 per container compared with $7 at present.
In other news, United Arab Shipping will increase rates for shipments from Asia to East Mediterranean destinations, starting March 1.
The increase will be $250 per TEU for both dry and reefer cargo.
