The Miami River Marine Group last week named journalist Rick Eyerdam to be its new executive director.
Eyerdam was editor of the Florida Shipper, a Journal of Commerce sister publication, until it closed in January 2009. He has written and edited publications dedicated to the marine industry and trade in the Caribbean region. He is also a marine consultant, and was a moderator at the Journal of Commerce annual Marine Highways Conference.
The Miami River trade group is dedicated to the maritime industry on the Miami River, the fifth largest port in Florida, and discrete from the port of Miami. Last month the group announced victory in a suit against real estate developers who wanted the city of Miami to re-zone property along the river for residential construction, something that could threaten commercial activity.
Eyerdam will replace Francis Bohnsack, who headed the organization for 16 years. Bohnsack joined the Maritime Administration as its Southeast regional representative.
