Groundbreaking will take place next month on a 413,000 square-foot auto parts distribution facility, service training center and regional offices for Subaru of America. The facility will be constructed at the Rivergate Industrial District at the Port of Portland.
The site is near Terminal 6, the Oregon port's container terminal. It is close to both marine terminal and intermodal rail services. "With this lease the port has the opportunity to explore future logistics opportunities with Subaru for auto parts distribution operations," said Bill Wyatt, executive director of the Port of Portland.
Subaru has outgrown its existing 175,000 square-foot facility in Portland. The new lease includes two extension options of five years each. The building will be constructed according to environmentally benign standards required to attain a LEED certification.

The port of entry for Subaru vehicles is the Port of Vancouver, Wash., across the river from Portland. Subaru has a 30,000 square-foot auto processing warehouse and 40-acre cargo backup area in Vancouver.
Subaru's facility will be the second project at Rivergate Corporate Center III. The 114-acre property owned by the port is expected to eventually accommodate over 2.4 million square feet of industrial space.
