Mediterranean Shipping Co. is adding the Port of Seattle to its California Express service out of Europe with the arrival this week of the container ship MSC Vienna.
The service starts at Gioia Tauro, Naples, Civitavecchia and La Spezia, Italy. It then goes through Valencia, Spain, Cristobal and Balboa, Panama; Long Beach, Oakland and Vancouver, Canada.
MSC operates vessels of about 3,000-TEU capacity on the service. The vessels will call in Seattle at Terminal 18 operated by SSA Marine.
Seattle is coming off a strong recovery year in 2010 in which loaded imports grew 46.6 percent, producing record international container volume.
