Hapag-Lloyd announced a steep hike in its “war risk surcharge” on all cargo moving to and from ports in Libya. The new surcharge is $250 per 20-foot equivalent unit, up from $85 per TEU imposed earlier. The revision is slated to take effect June 30 on all non-U.S. trade routes, and Aug. 1 for the U.S.-related trades.
United Arab Shipping Company will apply a general rate increase on the trade from Asia to ports in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf region, as part of a new rate restoration program. The planned increase will be $200 per TEU. It will take effect July 1 and remain in force until July 31.
