Zim Integrated Shipping Services is seeking September rate increases for westbound shipments from Asia to North Europe and the Mediterranean. Effective Sept. 15, rates on cargo from Asia to North Europe will go up $350 per 20-foot-container unit. The Israeli carrier will hike rates by $300 per TEU on shipments moving from Asia to ports in the Mediterranean, starting Sept. 10. The increases do not cover trades from the Indian subcontinent to Europe.
Singapore-based container carrier APL is seeking a general rate increase on trades from Asia and the Middle East to the U.S. West Coast. The carrier said rates will go up $400 per 20-foot, $500 per 40-foot, $565 per 40-foot high cube and $635 per 45-foot container, effective Sept. 13. The increases will also cover special equipment, including open-top and flat-rack containers. Meanwhile, Chilean ocean carrier CSAV has joined rival liner operators in announcing a rate hike on westbound cargo from India to Europe. Starting Sept. 1, rates will rise by $200 per TEU and $400 per FEU.
“The GRI will apply to shipments moving from India to destinations in Europe, the Mediterranean and Black Sea,” CSAV India said. CSAV’s move follows similar increase announcements by Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Company and Hapag-Lloyd on India-Europe-Mediterranean trade lanes, starting next month.
Maersk Line plans to seek general rate increases on two major trade lanes, starting Sept. 15. The Danish carrier will hike rates by $300 per TEU on shipments from the east coast of South America to destinations in North Europe, the Mediterranean, Black Sea and the Middle East. Rates on dry cargo moving from Far East Asia to the Caribbean will attract an increase of $580 per 20-foot and $800 per 40-foot/high cube container.
