The weaker euro boosted Europe’s July exports to North America 9.4 percent to 311,000 20-foot equivalent container units, as all major container trade lanes saw steady volumes.
Exports to Europe increased by 6.4 percent year-over-year year to 231,800 TEUs, down 2,500 TEUs from June, when trade contracted by 1.1 percent year-over-year, according to Container Trades Statistics.
Europe’s trade with Asia also grew, with exports from Europe up 6.7 percent year-over-year to 506,800 TEUs and imports climbing 7.65 percent to 1.3m TEUs, the highest monthly total since January.
“Exports from Europe on all seven trades monitored are up on June except India/Middle East,” added the analyst. “Imports to Europe, on the other hand, are down on all trades except Asia. All major trades remain more solid than a year ago.”
