Crowley and Seaboard Marine, members of the Florida-Bahamas Shipowners & Operators Association, will increase their bunker surcharges on all imports and exports carried under all tariff and service contract rates between the U.S. and the Bahamas as of Feb. 20, they said Friday.
The increases are part of a global trend by carriers to keep up with the rising cost of bunker fuel, which mirrors the price of crude oil and has risen over $500 per metric ton recently as the price of crude approached $100 per barrel.
The two carriers said they will increase the bunker surcharge $66 on 20-foot equivalent units, $132 on 40-foot equivalent units and $149 on all equipment over 40 feet.
