Turkon Container Transportation & Shipping Inc. was established in 1997 by Kasif Kalkavan Group of Companies. The Istanbul, Turkey-based shipping company operates 8 ships with a total carrying capacity of 13,578 TEUs as of Aug. 11, 2014, according to Alphaliner, and calls ports in the Mediterranean, Israel, North America and Europe. The company also has a network of 31 regional agencies. It is the only ocean carrier that offers direct service between Turkey and the United States.
Turkon Line was the 33rd-ranked container carrier in U.S containerized import trade in 2013, with volume of 32,628 TEUs, down 4.2 percent year-over-year, giving it market share of 0.2 percent. It was No. 35 in U.S. containerized export trade in 2013, with volume of 40,720 TEUs, up 11 percent year-over-year and market share of 0.3 percent.
