Rickmers Trust said Tuesday it chartered the Kaethe C. Rickmers to Mediterranean Shipping Co. for an initial period of 12 months starting March 25.
The Kaethe C. Rickmers, a container ship with a capacity of 5,060 20-foot equivalent units, is chartered out at a fixed daily rate of $7,600 for the first year, with MSC having an option to extend for a further 12 months at a fixed daily rate of $23,750.

Thomas Preben Hansen, CEO of Singapore-based Rickmers Trust, said the contracted charter rate is a reflection of the depressed shipping market.
“With the significant charter hire increase agreed for the
optional period, there is reason to hope that a market recovery will take place within the next 12 months,” Hansen said.
The Rickmers Trust fleet of container ships is now 100 percent chartered out for the remainder of 2012 at an average daily net charter rate of almost $25,000 per vessel.
