OOCL on Friday said it will raise freight rates on containers moving on the eastbound backhaul leg from North Europe to Asia as of March 15.
The Hong Kong-based carrier said current rates “continue to be below the required level to cover basic operating costs or transportation costs on our North Europe to Asia Trade.”
The general rate increase will be $200 per container. OOCL had previously announced a March 1 rate increase of $800 per 20-foot-equivalent container on cargo moving on the headhaul leg from Asia to Europe.
The carrier said Friday that it will announce further “rate restorations” in 2012 “in due course.”
