MSC to Impose Low Sulfur Surcharge on US Imports

Mediterranean Shipping Co. will impose a new low sulfur surcharge on import shipments at all U.S. ports on the East, West and Gulf Coasts.

The surcharge, which MSC announced on Friday, will take effect on Aug.3. The surcharge varies, depending on the coast.

The surcharge on import containers at ports on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts is $10 per 20-foot container and $20 per 40-foot container.

The surcharge for import containers at West Coast ports will be $12 per TEU and $24 per FEU.

MSC said the surcharge will be imposed on the cargo manifest, whether prepaid, shipped collect or some other way.
