Mediterranean Shipping Co. is adding a port call at Haifa in Israel on both legs of its Golden Gate Service between Asia and the U.S. East Coast via the Suez Canal.
MSC said the first call at Haifa will be by the MSC Anchorage, sailing from Ningbo in China on Oct. 9 and arriving in Haifa on Nov. 9.
The carrier said that by calling Haifa directly from Asia, the Golden Gate Service will provide transit times of 21 days from Shanghai, 17 days from Yantian and 13 days from Singapore.
MSC said the new link will provide a transit time of 11 days from Israel to New York.
MSC will deploy 13 vessels with capacities of 9,200 20-foot-equivalent units on the following revised port rotation: Ningbo, Shanghai, Chiwan, Yantian, Singapore, Haifa, New York, Norfolk, Baltimore, Savannah, Charleston, Freeport, Norfolk, Haifa, Colombo, Singapore, Chiwan, Hong Kong and back to Ningbo.
