Maersk Line will impose a peak-season surcharge on trades from Far East Asia to Latin America, starting May 20.
The planned surcharge will be $300 per 20-foot equivalent unit.
“Due to a shortage of 20-foot dry containers from Far East Asia to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the west coast of South America, we are applying a peak-season surcharge on 20-foot dry containers,” the Danish carrier said.
Maersk also said it will seek a general rate increase on services from Far East Asia to the east coast of South America. Effective May 15, the proposed GRI will be $500 per TEU.
