Maersk Line will impose a general rate increase on westbound shipments from India to North Europe and the Mediterranean, starting Sept. 1.
The planned increase on all cargo will be $200 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container.
“While we are continuously endeavoring toward serving customers to the best of our capabilities, prevailing rates are proving to be difficult to sustain, especially in the current market scenario,” the Danish carrier said.
The move follows a similar rate hike announcement by state-owned Shipping Corp. of India on India-Europe trade lane, which took effect July 1.
