Maersk Line will begin charging a cargo declaration amendment fee on shipments to destinations that require advanced manifest, starting March 1.
The size of the fee will be set locally and will apply to a second or any subsequent submission of the shipping information to customs authorities. Destinations that include advance manifest include the European Union countries, the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“Processing changes to transport documents of a shipment that requires an advanced manifest can be complex and time-consuming,” said Maersk. “In order to comply with the legal requirement, any updated transport information for such a shipment needs to be re-submitted to the customs authorities.”
