Hapag-Lloyd Sets Asia-Europe Peak-Season Surcharge

Hapag-Lloyd will implement a peak-season surcharge on its services from Asia to North Europe and the Mediterranean, effective Jan. 14 through Feb. 17, 2013.

The planned surcharge on all cargo and containers would be $350 per 20-foot- equivalent unit, applying to westbound shipments from East Asia (excluding Japan) to ports in North Europe, East/West Mediterranean, the Black Sea and North Africa.

The move follows a $325-per-TEU peak-season surcharge announcement by United Arab Shipping Co. in Asia-Europe trade lanes, effective Jan. 12, 2013.
