Hapag-Lloyd to Raise India-US Rates

Hapag-Lloyd will put a general rate increase into effect Feb. 1, 2013, on its services from the Indian subcontinent to the U.S. and Canada.

The proposed rate hike will be $320 per 20-foot container, $400 per 40-foot container, $450 per 40-foot high cube container and $506 per 45-foot container.

The subcontinent region includes ports in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Separately, the German carrier said it will apply a rate increase on all cargo and containers from East Asia (excluding Japan) to the Indian subcontinent. Starting Jan. 15, 2013, the planned increase will be $200 per 20-foot container.
