Hapag-Lloyd is advising customers to avoid delivering reefer exports to inland locations this week, as the Christmas holiday may prevent them from reaching vessels sailing before Dec. 29.
The ocean carrier also is urging that import reefer containers be picked up by Dec. 28 to ensure they are removed from terminals before the International Longshoremen's Association contract expires on Dec. 29.
Hapag-Lloyd in November announced plans to impose a congestion surcharge in the event of a strike. Those surcharges are $800 per 20-foot container, $1,000 per 40-foot container, $1,125 per 40-foot high cube, and $1,266 per 45-foot high cube.
